At Towngas, our mission is to provide our customers with a safe and reliable gas supply, while working to protect, preserve and improve our environment.

Our concern for safety underpins everything we do, including home safety and public safety. We take proactive efforts to enhance customers' knowledge of gas safety.

Towngas is also committed to continuous improvement in it's environmental performance, which will ultimately promote sustainable development in Hong Kong. We invest in ways to make the actual production of gas cleaner and have achieved high performance in our "green policy" to ensure an environmentally friendly operation.

Towngas Safety TIPS
To emphasise the stringent safety requirement of Towngas as well as to enhance the safety awareness and culture of managerial staff, frontline employees and customers, we have established three sets of TIPS (Ten Integrated Proactive Safety) accordingly for illustrating the safety critical elements of Towngas.

The three sets of TIPS are:

  • Ten rules of corporate safety management
  • Ten commandments of employee personal safety
  • Ten reminders of customer safety
Reward
We continue to introduce our environmental management system and standards to our project companies on the mainland, and in line with the completion of our carbon audit in Hong Kong, we are extending this practice into the country. With a focus on creating “low emission” businesses, we are conducting a number of environmental campaigns. A number of JVs, in Shandong for instance, have also started tree planting and other environmentally-friendly programmes.

Sharing our expertise in the management of a comprehensive and effective environment programme, we also participated in a number of summits and forums, often speaking on our own experience and activities. A major highlight during the year was the Global Green Business Summit which took place in Tianjin. Endorsed by the Tianjin Government, we made a presentation together with leading figures from major organizations such as UNIPCC (United Nation Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) as well as the Chinese government’s National Development and Reform Commission, National Energy Administration and Ministry of Environmental Protection.

Recognising our outstanding performance and positive influence on the environment and the industry in mainland China, we won the 2009 National Enterprise Environmental Excellence Award, presented by China Environment News.
